It is the policy of the Hamden Police Department to increase and improve traffic services by maintaining a specialized Traffic Division. The Traffic Division serves to augment the Patrol Division's efforts to enforce motor vehicle laws and investigate accidents. They also serve as primary investigators for all fatal motor vehicle accidents. The ultimate goal of the selective traffic enforcement program of the Hamden Police Department is to reduce traffic accidents.
Accidents: The Hamden Police Department will respond to and investigate all traffic accidents reported at the time of their occurrence, whether on public or private property, involving death or injury, damage to public vehicles or property, hit and run, impairment of an operator due to alcohol or drugs, hazardous materials, disturbances between principals, major traffic congestion as a result of the accident or damage to vehicles to the extent towing is required.
